Pianogrillo
Sicily, Italy
The Pianogrillo Estate has been in the possession of the Piccione di Pianogrillo baron's family for centuries. The estate is renowned for the production of high-quality extra virgin olive oils and, more recently, wine, employing organic farming methods.
Nestled at an elevation of 480 meters above sea level, the vines and olive trees thrive in a unique blend of sand, limestone, and white marlstones. The significant fluctuations in temperature between day and night, characteristic of the Mediterranean climate, have proven to be a valuable asset.
The estate specializes in the cultivation of four native grape varieties: Grillo, Grecanico, Nero d’Avola, and Frappato. Its flagship olive variety is the extraordinary Tonda Iblea, native to the region. Upholding nature preservation and environmental responsibility are core values of the company. To this end, they also tend to the rare Sicilian swine, the Nero Ibleo, which continues to breed in the wild, and raise workhorses to aid in the vineyards.
Pianogrillo comprises a total of sixty hectares dedicated to olive tree cultivation, seven hectares of vineyards, and fifteen hectares of woods. This is the essence of Pianogrillo.
